Tree & Shrub Care – Late Spring Insect & Disease

Late Spring Application – T04

What was done:

Today we applied insecticide to the trees and shrubs being cared for in your program. In addition, fungicides were included if they are part of your service program. The pests that are usually active at this time include mites, needleminers, leafminers, pine moths, caterpillars, weevils, spotted lanternfly, psyllids, sawflies, aphids, lacebugs, midge, cankerworms, scales, pine bark adelgids, mealybugs, borers, gypsy moths, plant bugs, thrips and tent caterpillars. Diseases to be controlled at this time are anthracnose, leaf spots, tip blight, twig blight, fire clight, rust and some needlecasts. A number of these diseases can be active from bud break, through spring until early summer and can be related to wet or moist conditions. This application usually dries within 1-2 hours and any precipitation after this time will not adversely impact the effectiveness of the treatment.

FYI: You can help prevent some of these disease problems by proper pruning to allow good air circulation, good sanitation practices of removing fallen leaves or twigs on which diseases can over-winter, and by installing plants in their proper environment and not subjecting them to potential problems. There will always be some feeding on foliage by some pests. Our treatments are designed to decrease pest populations so there is little noticeable damage to your plantings. Check with us about our pruning services, which we offer during the dormant season.

Additional available services:

Soil Injection can provide up to a full year control with one application on some insect pests. This method is great for lace bugs, Japanese beetles, aphids, leaf miners, Bronze Birch borer and other flat headed borers, scale insects, leaf beetles, mealy bugs, psyllids, white flies, and sawfly larvae. The material is injected into the ground at the base of the plant and moves upward through the plant to target pests. Please contact us to see how this system can benefit your landscape.

Weed Control In Beds is a program that can greatly reduce the number of these weeds and save you time and effort from hand pulling. We’ll make monthly visits to maintain control of this unwanted vegetation.

Remember Green Giant offers free inspections of all areas covered in your program. Should a question arise don’t hesitate to call so we can address your concern as quickly as possible. We will keep working until you are completely satisfied.

All of our programs are based on the principles of  Integrated Pest Management (IPM) which is an environmentally friendly and effective approach to controlling damaging insects, diseases and invasive plants. For more information about IPM click here.
